Tackling diseases that lack established effective treatments
Under the drug discovery strategy of “creating unique and innovative new drugs,” we advance research and development focused on oncology, immunology, neurology, and specialty, which are each areas where there is a high level of medical need but limited treatments. We will accumulate and utilize disease know-how, aiming to create innovative drugs in response to the hopes of patients.

Challenging conventions,
creating world-first innovations
To date, Ono Pharmaceutical has achieved many world-firsts. Before anyone else, we strove for commercialization of Prostaglandin, an unstable material, to produce 12 world-first pharmaceuticals. Through joint research with Nobel prize winners, we tackled the field of cancer immunotherapy, which many viewed negatively, producing new drugs. We are driving drug discovery of world-leading quality and speed, to deliver innovative drugs to many patients.

We are working to improve the success rate of, and to speed up, drug discovery, using AI for analysis and application of the vast amounts of information obtained through pioneering research, thereby shortening the time required to find new drug discovery seeds and create compounds.

More than 30 years before the general concept of open innovation was first proposed in 2003, and ahead of other companies, we advanced drug discovery activities through industry-academia collaboration. Presently, we still collaborate with the world’s top scientists, bioventures, and pharmaceutical manufacturers, driving development of innovative new drug candidates and proactive licensing activities. Open innovation is truly Ono Pharmaceutical’s lifeline.
Acceleration of globalization through integration of Deciphera
Ono Pharmaceutical positions global expansion, particularly in the U.S. and Europe, as one aspect of the company’s growth strategy, to deliver new drugs to patients worldwide. We are accelerating our global expansion centered on U.S. company Deciphera (Ono Group member since 2024), which has R&D and sales networks in the U.S. and Europe.

Human talents supporting our growth strategy
We formulated four growth strategies as pillars of our medium-term management plan. To advance these, we are working to train specialized human talents who possess skills and expertise, and cross-functional human talents, who broadly contribute to the advancement of all of our growth strategies and construction of our management foundation. Having determined target human resource numbers, we assign members to various training and projects to advance planned human resource development.
Nurturing a culture of endeavor
We create opportunities for employees to freely and proactively tackle challenges to drive diversification of experience and perspective. We are nurturing a culture where each employee can exercise their individuality and endeavor through programs such as the Ono Innovation Platform (OIP), aimed at recruiting for in-house transfers, cross-departmental assignments, and training of innovation-leading human talents.
